The planet is counting on us to act…

In ways big and small

In 2021, when he started Wildcraft Landscapes, Nate Tietbohl set out to bring the beauty — the sounds, colors, textures, smells, of native ecosystems and all they offer the planet and ourselves, into the landscapes and gardens of Berks and surrounding counties.

Our open spaces are in critical need of our intervention to re-build their capacity to support wildlife. Our ecosystems are in peril but we have the power to bring them back to health.

This may seem like a big task, and in many ways it is- but that is why Nate started Wildcraft Landscapes: to help homeowners and communities connect their aesthetic goals for their gardens with their conservation values.

By offering well designed, well built, and well managed landscapes full of native plants Wildcraft Landscapes strives to be a part of building a brighter future.

Nate Tietbohl

Owner, designer, craftsperson

As a professional, Nate has studied and immersed himself in nature, craft, design, education and community. He graduated from Elon University with a B.S. in Environmental Studies and a minor in Mathematics. He holds a Permaculture Design Certificate from instructor Will Hooker, North Carolina State University professor Emeriti of Landscape Architecture, and additionally has an advanced permaculture design certificate through Oregon State University. Nate is also in the process of completing his Certificate of Landscape Design from Longwood Gardens.

Nate has held a number of jobs in the construction and landscaping industry and worked as a foreman for a southeastern permaculture design firm installing rainwater systems and edible landscapes. He has lived and worked on farms, led youth backpacking trips, and helped start community gardens. He has taught workshops on permaculture and landscaping with native plants with the Eco-Institute at Pickards Mountain and Berks Nature.

His passion is using the designed environment to support wildlife and the human connection with the natural world.

“… I fell in love with nature, I guess, before I can remember. Barefoot in the woods, sitting and watching the crayfish on the creek bottom, that way sometimes just one leaf waves wildly on a tree - all of these moments nourish and inspire me.

Some years ago, I began a journey to understand natural systems in all their beauty, and also the sweat, effort and intention that goes into building and making. Wildcraft Landscapes is my attempt to bring those two ideas together - the scientific & the emotional into the physical realm. To bring the wonder of nature back into everyday life…”
